“Blind Date” — Episode 103

TV

The recent changes at the show are taking their toll on Lemon’s stress level. Jack recognizes this, and decides to try to set her up with his friend, Thomas. Liz is offended by the idea at first, and explains that the date would take place at the same time as the cast’s weekly poker game. But, after choking on her dinner at home alone, she changes her mind. Jack gives Liz some money to go out and buy some something from “a women’s clothing store”.

Liz leaves to meet her date, and Jack crashes the poker game by taking her place. In true Jack Donaghy style, he takes charge of the game and raises the stakes. He is able to figure out what everyone’s tells are and cleans them all out. He wins Pete’s wedding ring, Frank’s rent money, and other valuables. But, when Kenneth joins the game, the tables are turned, and Jack loses everything to him, unable to figure out his tell

Lemon is sitting at the bar waiting for her date, when an attractive woman approaches and introduces herself as Gretchen Thomas, Jack’s friend. Apparently, Jack has mistakenly assumed that Liz is a lesbian. Gretchen and Liz get along, and become friends.

Liz confronts Jack the next day about his mistaken assumption. He explains that he thought she was gay because of her shoes, insisting that at the very least they are “…definitely bi-curious.”

Jack organizes another poker night, in an attempt to beat Kenneth. Liz invites Gretchen, and the other writers are intrigued. Jack figures Kenneth out, and beats him at poker, taking his page jacket and job. Jack then gives them back to Kenneth, restoring his sense of pride. Jack, referring to Kenneth, tells Liz that within five years they will all be working under him, or have died by his hand.

Liz meets Gretchen at a bar. Gretchen explains that she can no longer hang out with Liz. She explains that it feels too much like she is chasing a straight woman. They part ways, and and a married man hits on Liz, not realizing that she can see his wedding ring.
